The Dude Grows Show

Cal-Mag Sources

Good morning DGC. New member here and I had a question about cal-mag sources. Just a quick breakdown of the grow. Growing og kush photo in a 3×2. I’m using an earthbox and attempting no till in it. I’m following the buildasoil schedule and have majority of the amendments they recommend on the schedule. Is it safe to use Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) and gypsum (calcium sulfate) when watering? I don’t have a deficiency but I would like to add a dose to each watering to make sure I stay ahead of it. What would the dosing be per gallon? Just want to just say thanks to everyone on the for everything I’ve learned so far and everything I have yet to learn for you all!

Magnesium sulfate corrective doses up to 1-2 Tablespoons/gallon. With cannabis-specific soil blends I’d say a teaspoon per gallon should be plenty, but go heavier if you see interveinal chlorosis. I haven’t seen gypsum as a water-in additive, I’d just put a dusting on the surface, although not sure it is needed with BAS blends since they already put some in there. Also not sure how available gypsum is as a nutrient, might do better with earth worm casting tea for a fast calcium (and nitrogen) boost.

Thank you for the response. Do castings also provide magnesium or is it better to just add a little to the water when making the tea?
