What bug is this?

Hey DGC,

I checked on two of my seed that I was popping, and I found a bunch of these inside my riot plugs after a day or two.  The plugs we’re in my soil when I saw this.  Yeah my seeds would pop, and then the roots would be basically look like they were eaten.

thanks

I’ve been googling during some down time at work, and not having any better luck. You might not find the exact species. So hard to pinoint, too many similar bugs to compare. Probably your best bet is to trash the soil and start fresh. Hard to fight a species you can’t identify. They do look like beetles, so maybe the correct BT could help. BT “tenebrionis” and BT “japonensis” control beetle larvae.

Only thing I know is they’re fast movers. They mostly around my grow room floors and saucers but they’re all dead. So I clean my grow room floors. I’ll treat the soil and grow area. Yeah my other seats popped and they have no problems. Mostly I’m finding them in my root riot pods when am popping seeds along with tons of white little worm( I don’t know if that’s gnat larva)

Look up “minute fungus beetle.” There’s quite a wide variety of them but one looked just like your pics. Maybe they weren’t eating the roots but the fungus, and it diseased the baby roots

Or ” minute shiny mold beetle”

    How about this Thyreocoridae

    What do ebony bugs do?

Ebony bugs are usually seen as they feed on the flowers and developing seeds of their food plants — typically, wildflowers that hold their flower clusters a few feet above the ground. Look for them, especially, visiting the flowers of Queen Anne’s lace and other members of the parsley or carrot family.

I’m just gonna buy this and treat my soil with it. Hopefully it works.

Well, flea beetles like leaves. But it sure looks like a flea beetle. Could it be a whole family of baby Beatles just exploding?

Any suggestions of IPM I can use to soil drench. I’ll check my seedlings tomorrow they bath three weeks old. I didn’t see any on the plants like I said just in my root riot pod and all dead around my grow area floor and saucers.
